Bay Area, California Photographer - Frank Thom

A little bit about me

Growing up, I had a love for two things - playing sports and photography. When I wasn’t on a field, court or rink, I was shooting sports, landscapes, street life, or spending time in the darkroom processing black & white film and color transparencies. Yep, old school. I went on to study art, imaging making and, yes, business at Columbia College in Chicago.

I found my way into the world of advertising, marketing and publishing where I’ve spent the majority of my career. I worked at major publications like Outside Magazine, Bicycling Magazine, SmartMoney, U.S. News, and Forbes where I was exposed to editorial photography, art direction and production. Then this tiny search engine whose name originated from the misspelling of the word "googol” came a-calling. I helped them with global brand partnerships; they helped me build upon my team building, cross functional collaboration and problem solving skills. Surprising to me, it’s these lessons that I’ve brought to my photography.

Today, if I’m on the field, its with a camera in hand. Instead of darkroom time, I’m perfecting my lighting skills on location or in a studio. My network consists of athletes, musicians, models, artists and fellow photographers. My storytelling consists of environmental and studio portraits, travel, action and motion. And my plans are to take this passion for creating as far as I can.

I’m a Bay Area photographer available for collaboration, commercial and editorial work.
